Black History Month wouldn’t have been on the calendar without Negro history week’s creation in the USA in 1926. A well-known historian Carter G. Woodson and the association of Negro Life and History, declared the second week of February as Negro History Week. The primary purpose of this affair is to encourage the teaching related to history of Black Americans in educational institutes, mainly at primary level.

Black students and educators sponsored the idea of Black History Month in February 1969, followed by an initial celebrations at Kent State University. Fast forward to six years, and it eventually became a widely celebrated event.
