Racism, or in other words, discrimination against ethnicity or race, has always been a colossal problem worldwide. It has created massive issues in the communities for decades, and many still suffer from enormous damage.
The IDERD – International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination happens on 21st March every year. This year’s theme focuses on the “Voices For Action Against Racism” to highlight the significance of freedom of speech and recognition of racial discrimination. Moreover, the focus is also to talk about realizing and accepting contributions made by the individuals and organizations taking steps against the racial discrimination happening all around. The day acts as a chance to encourage people that their presence can make a vital difference in society. I Am Mixed Roots stands as a strong advocate in standing against racial discrimination. And one of the primary mottos is to let the world know that diversity has the power to create unity.
In 1960, when police opened fire in Sharpeville, South Africa, which killed around 69 people during a non-violent demonstration against the apartheid ‘pass laws.’ It was then in 1979 that the General Assembly decided to start a program regarding taking action against racial discrimination. It concluded that a week would be dedicated starting from 21st March to favor the people struggling with racism in all the States. Fortunately, it has brought about significant positive outcomes, such as countless racist practices and laws that have come to an end. A proper system is not present to fight racism with the help of the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. However, we still need to go a long way in understanding and helping communities and protect them from lifelong suffering.
The UN has been actively participating in providing support to international human rights. According to the UN General Assembly, every human is born utterly free with dignity and rights. And they have all the potential to contribute to society to make a constructive, positive change.
Last year in September, there were meetings by the United Nations General Assembly with the goal to bring world leaders together. The theme was “Reparation, racial justice and equality for People of African Descent.”
UN General Assembly has always played an active role in enabling the world to recognize the rights of humans on a global level.
As we stand today to mark the International Day to eliminate Racial Discrimination, we at Mixed Roots believe that every individual deserves to live freely in this world. If we cannot fight this old-age war of race and ethnicity, then there is no hope for any of us. Racism is a dominating factor that contributes to initiating positive or negative long-term health conditions. Some studies show that children who do not directly face racism are still equally affected as those who experience it. Racial discrimination has negative impacts not only physically but mentally too. Individuals risk adopting unhealthy habits such as drug usage, smoking, or alcohol consumption in some situations. All this leaves a significant effect on the overall wellbeing of an individual. We all need to remove the harmful practices that can be extremely detrimental to every individual. We provide awareness through the mixed roots Brand Products, including Unity In Diversity Apparel, to help people stand together and support each other with no discrimination whatsoever.
We provide awareness through the mixed roots Brand Products to help people comprehend and stand for all things justice. One can join the leading organizations or personalities to help in their reason for eradicating the unfairness all around. This year let’s come together and work for the common cause of spreading wakefulness in every individual about racial discrimination and human rights.
